SOLAR WORKSHOP MODULES

With the increasing interest in Climate Change issues , we are proud to announce our specialised training program on Solar Energy for New Zealand.
Solar Energy is different in many ways to conventional energy systems. There is a lack of education on all levels of the society, regarding the possibilities and actual state-of-the-art technologies. On a professional level there is a lot of sceptism to implement Solar Energy in domestic, commercial and industrial buildings. It is clear that there is a strong desire from both individuals and organisations, to be provided with accurate, up-to-date information to ensure maximum efficiency of energy, whilst in the process aiding the environment.

Courses + Training :
EWA-TEC Limited offers workshops, courses and training events in different ways.
- Morning Tea sessions
- Multi-day Workshops
- One-day Seminars
- Training on location or at venues
- Weekend Classes
- Basic Trainings for Specialisation
- Information Sessions on evenings

Programs: we focus on following areas
- Solar Hot Water
- Solar Space Heating
- Solar Pool Heating
- Solar Large Scale Applications
- Solar Electricity with Photovoltaics

Target audience
- Home Owners and –Builders

Learning objectives :
• To understand the basics of Solar Energy
• To promote renewable ‘technologies’ in general for all knowledge levels
• To educate and inform the working principles and implementation in building projects
• To provide valuable , state-of-the-art , practical and correct information on Solar Energy and its different applications
• To provide logical and factual argument for the benefits of sustainable energy
• To educate the public on the benefits of Solar Energy
• To increase the interest of all the possible users

CONTENTS OF SOLAR WORKSHOPS : short description

1. Solar Water Heater (SWH) : production of hot water
The most applied technology of solar energy is the production of hot water .

In this workshop we explain the very important solar basics that are necessary to understand how solar irradiation can produce heat. Different types of SHW will be explained with some of their advantages and disadvantages. A technical overview will show solutions for cost-effective back-up , for freezing and overheating situations which are the main 2 failures.
Design and thumb rules will be explained .

2. Solar Space-Heating (SSH) :
Solar Energy can also be partly used for space heating.

In combination with a SWH a lot of energy can be saved for space heating applications without loosing comfort. Different concepts of passive/active solar heating in combination with auxiliary heating will be explained.

Storage and control are very important aspects to maximise the benefits from Solar Space heating.

3. Solar Electricity (SE) : electricity from the sun
The production of electricity from the sun is increasing enormously in the world.

This part of the Solar Industry is booming business although this technology is not cheap and performances are generally low compared to other Solar Energy Applications.

Different materials are used in manufacturing and the performance thus economical evaluation depends on the choosen concepts and design.

A lot of auxiliary equipment is involved and the design of the whole Solar System will be considered .

This workshop will cover all basic aspects of grid connected and off-grid systems.

4. Debunking the  myths  against solar-energy
A lot of people have prejudices against the use of solar energy and therefore not use it. This sceptism is undeserved and slows down the development of this very sustainable form of renewable energy.
These prejudices are the guidelines for this training and will be explained technical –economical why Solar Energy should be more implemented in the Building Industry .

5. Troubleshooting Solar Hot Water systems

Many different SHW are on the market and not all of the different concepts /installations are reliable over a longer term. Some of them even fail after the very first year. The choice of materials and auxiliary equipment reflects immediately on the quality,  maintenance , and thermal performance of a SHW.

Troubleshooting different Solar systems can help reduce maintenance and increase the performance of an existing SHW system.

This workshop contains all necessary information to avoid the typical ‘blunders’ during installation of SHW.

6. Design of different Energy Buildings

To reduce the ecological footprint it is important to design a building in a very energy-efficient way. Depending on the technical feasibility and available budget, the choice should be made between following concepts :
- Energy Efficient Building
- Low Energy Building
- Zero Energy Building
- Positive Energy Building

All these concepts will be technically explained and possible savings discussed by means of case-studies.
Obviously Solar Energy and different applications will be involved in many ways .
